ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

PHP is the most popular scripting language on the Web; over 70% of web applications are written in PHP including Facebook, Flickr, etc. This programme is an integrated Web Development course primarily designed to impart a working knowledge of Web programming with PHP and MySQL to partcipants who already have some knowledge of front-end technologies like HTML and CSS. At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

• Develop mailing systems, newsletter scripts and mass mailers.
• Create simple Content Management Systems.
• Create an Online Registration System with a database back-end.

COURSE CONTENT

Various topics in PHP and MySQL geared towards achieving the afore-mentioned learning objectives.

• PHP Basics - Introduction; Installation; Variables; Operators; Conditional Statements; Loops; Arrays; Functions.
• Interactive Web Forms; Server-side Form Validation.
• Sessions and Cookies and applications.
• File upload - learn how to create forms and scripts to upload files of various types to the server-pictures, videos, mp3's, pdf's, zip files etc.
• SQL - SQL queries from simple to advanced; Data Normalization; Relational Databases; Entity Relationship - Participants will get to understand the abstract and often perplexing concepts of left join, right join, inner join etc. through practical class web projects.
• Database Administration .
• Security Issues.
• MySQL.

PRE-REQUISITE

Participants in this course are expected to know front end web design with HTML, CSS or any of the web design software. In particular, participants are expected to be conversant with HTML forms.

PROJECTS

In addition to class projects, participants will be required to complete individual projects as part of requirements for certification. The projects will be to clone some popular web applications(with some supervision).

COURSE FEE

The course fee is N40,000(fourty thousand naira). This covers tuition, course materials and certificate.

TRAINING SCHEDULE

The programme will last for 2(two) weeks( Monday to Friday ) from 26th July to 6th August, 2010.
